Tragedy in Encino, Longtime American Idol Music Supervisor Robin Kaye and Husband Found at Home

The entertainment industry has been rocked by the tragic deaths of Robin Kaye, the esteemed music supervisor behind over a decade of American Idol’s soundtrack, and her husband, Thomas Deluca. Concerned relatives hadn’t heard from the couple in days, so they alerted authorities—who, upon arriving at the Encino residence, discovered signs of forced entry, distress, and blood by the front door. Inside, both Kaye and Deluca had been fatally shot. Investigators believe this was a deliberate attack, not a random act of violence, though no arrests have been made.

Just days before the killings, neighbors reported seeing a suspicious individual scaling the couple’s fence; a helicopter search yielded no suspects. Now, detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward as they piece together what led to this horrific crime.

Robin Kaye had shaped American Idol’s musical identity for fifteen seasons, earning multiple Guild of Music Supervisors Awards for her work on that show as well as on Lip Sync Battle and other hits. Colleagues recall her uncanny ear for the perfect song, her unwavering dedication, and her generosity in mentoring young talent. Thomas Deluca, though more private, was known to share her passion for music and supported her career at every turn.

Messages of shock and grief have poured in from peers who admired Kaye’s creativity, kindness, and tireless work ethic. As the investigation continues, the entertainment community mourns the loss of two beloved figures. Yet Robin’s legacy—her gift for marrying melody to emotion—will continue to resonate in every scene she helped score.
